Protection from Negativity

This month I wanted to cover a bit of information regarding protection and negativity. I've been noticing January has either been a fantastic new month for some people with plenty of new opportunities, or its been the entire opposite where for some, it seems like anything and everything that could go wrong - has. Either way, it is always good to protect yourself, loved ones and your home and the more knowledge you have on witchy ways to shield, the better!
Just like spell work, there are both physical and mental ways to do it. You could use a physical approach which would include things like black salt, protective smudging spray, and crystals that you empower with protective intention, or you could just use the power of your mind to create a psychic shield to insure safety during rough patches such as the ones some are currently experiencing.
I'm going to give you directions for both kinds - physical and mental in hopes that one will appeal to you and help you. You can always take the time to research other ways if these methods don't spark your interest, just know that there are countless ways to make sure you, your loved ones and your home are well protected. I insist on trying out a few kinds and seeing which one works the best for you.
Physical Method
A wonderful way to protect yourself is to use crystals. There are quite a few kinds of stones that work best for manifesting protective energies, and here is a list of those. Black Tourmaline, Onyx, Labradorite, Black Obsidian, Black Kyanite, Smoky Quartz, Citrine (One of my personal favorites!), "Holey Stones," Quartz, Selenite, Turquoise, Amethyst, Fire Agate, Hematite, Lapis Lazuli, and Tigers Eye
There's also many others, but here is a nice little list to start with. See if any of these peak your interest, and you can even do a search on google images to see what each of them look like.
Once you have your crystal the best possible thing you can do is to cleanse it energetically. Think of all of the different kinds of people the particular stone you picked up has come into contact with. It could have attracted all different kinds of icky energies that you definitely do not want! The best advice that I can give to clease all stones is to place it on a windowsill in the light of the moon - full moon is best, but any moon light is beneficial. There are various other ways to cleanse crystals but you need to be extremely cautious and do plenty of research because certain methods can damage some crystals. For instance, you would never want to cleanse a selenite crystal with water. Water will completely ruin the beautiful icy sheen of your selenite crystal, and you would not want that to happen. I would do a bit of research if the moonlight method doesn't appeal to you and see what you come up with. Also, be sure to take your crystal out of the windowsill before the sun rises because the sun can fade a lot of different kinds of crystals, such as amethyst and rose quartz.
Once your crystal has been cleansed, you are now prepared to charge your crystal with your protective intention. A wonderful way to do this is hold your crystal in your hands, and close your eyes. Take slow, deep breaths and calm yourself. If you'd first like to create a circle that is entirely optional, however, either way you do it, it is going to be helpful and protective. Picture the stone radiating out a bubble of white light that slowly expands to surround you entirely. Think of how strong this energy bubble is, and how nothing but only positive energy can penetrate it. Once you feel like your "shield" has been raised and empowered completely, you can relax. Keep the stone or crystal on you as much as possible as a reminder that you are well protected.
Mental Method
Another way to shield yourself is through the mental plane. If you are comfortable with meditative practices this should be very easy for you, and if not, no worries. It isn't a hard intention to set. I do insist though on a bit more preparation to get you into the "mood" though. I would suggest maybe taking a nice, relaxing bath beforehand, doing some light yoga, or even staring into a candle flame for a certain period of time. For me, the candle method is extremely soothing and I do it before every one of my readings. I would also make sure that you will not be bothered in any way during this intention, so turn off your phone, make sure you are home alone for a good period of time, and light a few candles if possible.
Once you feel like you have prepared yourself well for your mental intention you will be setting, I would sit on a comfy pillow, or you can lie down as long as you will be sure you won't fall asleep. Close your eyes, and focus on your breathing. Slow, deep breaths are key. Once you feel youself slipping into a calmer state of mind, focus on the breath you are taking in. Picture it as cleansing white energy that you are inhaling, and with each exhale picture the negative energy that you have accumulated over time being exhaled. You can even think of it as a thick smoggy grey smoke. Slowly as you continue to breath, keep taking in cleansing white energy, and exhaling any negative energy you feel like you may be holding onto. Once you feel you have cleansed yourself on the inside, now you can prepare to construct your shield. There's many different ways you can picture how your shield is made. I like to think of it as almost like a metal knetting kind of shield, where positivity can pass through but nothing negative can. It is strong and durable since it is metal, so it gives me that comfort in knowing it will protect me, but at the same time there are certain places where positivity is able to pass through easily. Construct it anyway you like, and once you feel like it is completely surrounding you, picture yourself as a radiant white ball of pure positive energy glowing outward. You've breathed out any negative energy you have accumulated and taken in everything good the universe has to offer in loving, gentle, pure energy. Once you've completed this, slowly open your eyes and bring yourself back to conciousness. Don't get up suddenly because you don't want to fall over, or hurt yourself in anyway. This is a very relaxing and calming exercise.
